About

Proud alternative multi-media artist, Kat Owen, has dedicated themself to their craft for more than half their life. Having originally started as photo realist portraitist, their passion grew and expanded into more during their studies at the Maryland Institute College of Art. While majoring in the ever-meticulous graphic design field, they created everything from paintings to music design pieces in their past time.

Now, they work to use their studies to create harmonious pieces of art that use both traditional and digital techniques. This combined with their deep respect and connection to the alternative community grants them the ability to create work that is both beautiful and unsettling.
“Art is profoundly healing for the human condition,” Kat says. Their work often revolves around trauma, grief, and loss of innocence as well as healing and growth. “I think that during hardships people lean on art as a means of self-preservation, who would we be without art?”

With Kat’s brand, blackkat, they hope to expand further into not only painting, print and design work but also the fashion world. The world of punk and goth culture & fashion has a great deal of an impact on their work, as can be seen in their hand-printed clothes and handmade jewelry
